This kind of modern trend of exploring Theravāda  Buddhism initiated by King Mongkut were considered a daring innovation in Thailand and it led to initiate a group of ‘progressive’ Buddhist monks who are always seeking to learn and who dare to do new things to uphold the correctness and purity of Buddhism. His exemplar later followed by many new Buddhist scholars such as Prince monk Vajiranyanavarorasa, Buddhadasa Bhikkhu and led Thai sangha to be focused also in studying modern secular subjects until the establishment of Buddhist universities in Thailand where nowadays both monks and laity can equally be educated both in Buddhism and modern sciences.
