Buddhist Monasteries in Thailand turn to be free food distribute centres for public. The Supreme Patriarch of Thailand encourages Thai Buddhist Wats (monasteries) turn into free food supply centres for general public during hardship from the COVID-19 pandemic. Accordingly, many Wats all over Thailand prepare everyday full cooked 2 meals (lunch and dinner) well packed in bag to give away for free for general public.
However, every one who goes for free meals have to follow ritual of safety. Everyone who stood in queue have to stand apart 2 metres from each other. Prior to get into the Wats, everyone gets temperature checked and give alcohol gel to wash their hands and go through virus-free chamber. When you pick up the meal there is no physical contact. For people who got high temperature, the meals would be delivered outside the Wats to keep public safe from Corona virus.
Moreover, Thai Wats are also supporting with food for medical staff and medical supplies for hospitals.
This is a true spirit of Buddhism. Depending on each other in need. Self-security comes from social-security and vice versa!
